TALLASSEE CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION

JUNE 19, 2012

 

 

 

            The Tallassee City Board of Education met on June 19, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee High School media center. Board members present were Damain Carr, Tina Harris, Danny Ingram, Ruthanne McCaig and Jim White. Superintendent Kenneth Varner and Board Attorney Joe Scarborough were also present.

 

            Board Vice-President, Danny Ingram, called the meeting to order and declared a quorum present. Mrs. McCaig led in the Pledge of Allegiance and Matt Coker, principal of Tallassee High School led in prayer.

 

            Mr. White moved, seconded by Mrs. Harris the agenda be accepted. The motion was approved.

 

            There were no delegations or public comments.

 

            Mrs. Harris moved, seconded by Mrs. McCaig the minutes of the May 22, 2012, regular meeting be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously.

 

            Dr. Varner recommended approval of the May 2012 financial report as presented by Jennifer Hornsby, Chief School Finance Officer. Mrs. McCaig moved, seconded by Mr. White the recommendation be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously.

 

            Dr. Varner recommended approval of the Harassment Complaint Form which is a supplement to Board Policy 5.26 – Student Anti-Harassment. Mr. White moved, seconded by Mr. Carr the recommendation be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously. (Attachment 1)

 

            Dr. Varner recommended approval of the 2012-2013 school calendar. Mr. White moved, seconded by Mrs. Harris the recommendation be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously. (Attachment 2)

 

            Dr. Varner recommended approval of the 2012-2013 Code of Conduct. Mrs. Harris moved, seconded by Mr. White the recommendation be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously.

 

            Dr. Varner recommended approval of the 2011 Audit Report. Mr. Carr moved, seconded by Mrs. McCaig the recommendation be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously.

            Dr. Varner recommended approval of an out of state field trip for the Tallassee High School wrestling team to Fort Walton Beach, Florida to attend a tournament. Mrs. Harris moved, seconded by Mr. White the recommendation be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously. (Attachment 3)

 

            Dr. Varner recommended approval of CNP bids for new Point of Sale terminals. Mr. White moved, seconded by Mrs. Harris the recommendation be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously. (Attachment 4)

 

            Dr. Varner recommended approval of the following personnel items:

Mrs. Harris moved, seconded by Mr. White the recommendation be accepted. The motion was approved unanimously.

 

            The superintendent reported on the following items:

a.       Summer School in session. Athletes getting ready for upcoming season

b.      Cram the Bus at Hardees

c.       Thank you notes from retirees

d.      Tessie Williams commendation letter

e.       Teacher involved with summer professional development

f.        Received an encouraging financial report from SDE

g.       Board information will be sent digitally and paper copy for the next few months

           

            Board Member Comments:

 

a.       Mr. Ingram reminded the members of the board that they will need to make a decision as to if they will run for the board of education for another term. He stated that it has been an honor serving with the members of the board.
