The Tallassee wrestling team has jumped out to a 15-1 start. Over the weekend, they faced the best of the best in the Swede Umbach Tournament in Auburn.
Tallassee placed 11 out of 23 teams with some of the top wrestlers in Alabama on display. Class 7A Huntsville won the tourney.
The Tigers two captains fared well but picked up their first defeats of the season. Senior Zak Haynes was second in the 132-pound weight class. Junior Mason Bell finished third at 160.
Haynes is 23-1 this season. Bell is 22-1.
The varsity team returns to action on Dec. 20 at the annual "Beast at the Beach" tournament in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
