In a year seemingly wrought with loss, Tallassee City Schools grieves yet again as we mourn an outstanding former staff member in Coach Leslie Waters. Coach Waters came to work at Tallassee City Schools in 1989 and served in various capacities. Many will remember him as a history teacher that could bring our nation’s past to life in his stories while others experienced his style of caring firmness as they visited the THS ISS room where he’d mentor them toward making better decisions.

All that had the privilege of serving under his tutelage or working with him experienced his sense of humor and ability to make anyone feel special. He coached many male and female athletes over his tenure. Even after his retirement in 2012, Coach Waters was a fixture at local athletic events and on our local lakes. He was known for his fishing prowess both far and wide. Even as a young student at Auburn University, I heard of the one-armed fisherman from Tallassee that could “out-fish” anyone with two good arms.

Coach Waters will be missed by the TCS family…..
