2022 Preseason Interview with Coach Kyle Hammonds

Welcome to 2022 Tallassee City Schools Baseball!

Coach Hammonds, give us a preview on what to expect...

“The boys have been working hard to get ready for the upcoming season.  Our staff is really excited about the future of Tallassee Baseball, both for this year and the years to come!  We have high expectations for our players.  Some of those expectations are to be the best teammate that they can be, focus on the little things, and always pursue perfection.”

Coach, Tell us a little about the schedule, staff, and players….

“We have put together a tough schedule for our varsity team this season.  We believe that is the only way to get better. Playing tough competition.

We have four returning seniors this year.  They are Clayten Gough, Drew Richardson, Elijah Bridgman, and Marciano Smith.  We will need to lean on our older guys for leadership and experience.  Our early games will give the staff an idea of what we do well and identify weaknesses we need to address before area play.

This year our area includes: Brewbaker Tech, Beauregard, and Pike Road.  Our goal every year will be an area championship and playoff berth.  We will also be traveling to Gulf Shores this season for a spring break tournament to get a look at teams we wouldn’t ordinarily see during the regular season.

Our coaching staff this season is Kyle Hammonds- Head Varsity Coach, Jacob Gibson- Assistant Varsity Coach, Blake Bradley- Head JV Coach, LD Bell- Assistant JV Coach, John Stonaker- Head Middle School Coach, and Brandon Baine-s Assistant Middle School Coach.”

 What about the JV team….

“We have also put together a tough JV Schedule.  We are excited about our younger guys look forward to seeing how will perform this year as they develop.  Our JV team has several returning players along with some new faces that have come up from middle school last season.  We want to win every JV game we play, but we also use the JV games as a teaching and learning opportunity.  Our goal is to prepare our JV players to be the future leaders of our program.”

Tell us about our SMS team…

“We are very excited about our SMS team for this season.  We have a great group of young men that have a high potential for the future.  Coach Stonaker has changed from JV to SMS this season and we also have a familiar face in Coach Brandon Baynes returning to Tallassee.  We are happy to have both leading our SMS team.  We look at our middle school program the same way we look at JV.  We want to win, but we also want to instill our program philosophy and basics so that these young men are ready for the varsity game when it’s their time.”

What message do you have for the THS Baseball Fans….

“We hope to see everyone at the field this year cheering our boys to a victory. Please remember to purchase your tickets vis GoFan prior to the game. We want to thank everyone and the community for all the support that we are given.  Go Tigers!!!!”
