The Southside Middle School 7th and 8th grade band members are performing at the SMS pep rallies and games this year.

"There aren't many middle schools who try this," said Michael Bird, band director.  "It's always a little nerve-wracking the first few times we play in public, because the kids aren't used to playing songs immediately and in public."

Mr. Bird noted that the only other school in the area that performs at middle school games is Wetumpka Middle School.  Their band is led by Mrs. Diana Frazier.

"Mrs. Frazier has been doing this at Wetumpka the past couple of years, but I would say Tallassee was first," said Mr. Bird.  "When Robby Glasscock taught at Southside years ago, he started taking the band to games, and we just continued doing it.  We've been going to the middle school games for about 15 years now," he said.

The mission of the Tallassee City School District is to provide a quality education, providing the basis for students to become life-long learners as well as moral, ethical, and compassionate people. A partnership of staff, students, parents, and the community will prepare students to become responsible citizens and productive members of the communities in which they live.
