We are building phonemic awareness and letter recognition at TES. Students are learning how to delete initial sound and segment words. In kindergarten, students are focusing on proper formation of the letter “Jj.” Pre-k students created their family tree and discussed what they love about their family using a graphic organizer.

Tallassee Elementary Title I and resource teachers are gaining professional development on multi-sensory learning to apply this approach into their classroom. The Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory instruction transforms beginning readers and students with dyslexia into skilled learners through an effective, fun, multi-sensory approach to reading and spelling.  In this in-depth training, teachers have learned the importance of the three part drill that focuses on visual, auditory and blending. Also, basic and advanced phonetic concepts for decoding and encoding.
