Kayla Popplewell from Service Dogs of Alabama along with Emmie Lou visited Mrs. Epperson's 6th Grade ELA classrooms on Monday to accompany their unit on service animals. Students interviewed Ms. Popplewell to gather information for their upcoming explanatory essay assignment.

Young women from SMS & THS attended the EmpowHER 2024 Mini Stem Conference held at Auburn University last week. Our 8th, 9th & 10th grade nominees experienced all branches of science and explored opportunities in the field of STEM through hands-on learning.

SMS would like to thank Special Agent Doug Walters from the DEA for speaking to our students this week about the importance of staying drug free and the dangers of fentanyl. Red Ribbon Week is critical at the middle school level, & we appreciate the support from local agencies.
SMS collected items for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Students, families, & community members came together to donate items to families in need in Georgia and North Carolina. We appreciate East Tallassee Methodist Church for handling the delivery of these items.
Southside Middle School will observe Red Ribbon Week next week, October 28th-October 31st! We will have spirit days for students to participate and declare to be drug free!
